Conscious Commitment

We nourish each other and ourselves in living by the five Zen Buddhist precepts:

From The I Ching

When two people are at one in their inmost hearts, they shatter even the strength of iron and bronze.

And when two people understand each other in their inmost hearts,
Their words are sweet and strong like the fragrance of orchids.

The Thousand Paper Crane and Turtle Ceremony

An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life, good fortune, love and a long happy marriage.

Shell Ceremony

In Tibet the conch shell is used in Buddhist rituals, both blown and as a receptacle for holy water.

The shell ceremony is part of the Thai Buddhist wedding ceremony (this could be used in a commitment ceremony as well). The celebrant soaks the couple's hands in water and wish them good luck. The water is contained in a conch shell container . Then, the parents and other selected people such as close friends and close relatives will do the same.

Butterfly Release

According to an American Indian Legend - If anyone desires a wish to come true they must first capture a butterfly and whisper that wish to it. Since a butterfly can make no sound the butterfly can not reveal the wish to anyone but the Great Spirit who hears and sees all. In gratitude for giving the beautiful butterfly its freedom, the Great Spirit always grants the wish.

So, according to legend, by making a wish and giving the butterfly its freedom, the wish will be taken to the heavens and be granted. We have gathered to grant this couple all our best wishes and are about to set these butterflies free in trust that all these wishes will be granted. Butterflies are then released on signing of the certificate or when the couple are announced as.
