When we first met Marilyn we were struck by her character, sincerity and professionalism. Of course, a celebrant’s primary role is to be able to proficiently guide the couple through the logistics and legal of the wedding ceremony, but the choices you make to hire someone are almost always down to the gut feeling you get from their character and personality. Marilyn ‘knew her stuff’ and made every step of the process easy but her warm and bubbly nature was what sold us. We also felt passionate about finding a celebrant who was experienced and passionate about LGBTQ+ unions and her knowledge and extensive experience was appealing to us as a queer couple. As our wedding was a surprise, we had few people who were in on the secret, but it was great to have Marilyn in on the conspiracy. It always felt like we were checking in with a family member who truly cared about our day when we would have our appointments. Her knowledge of the processes and legalities allowed us to relax in the lead up, and focus on the important elements, like crafting our vows and ceremony (which is the aspect that is the most memorable when you look back on the day). Marilyn was so encouraging of both of us in writing our unique vows and love story and the many resources that she offered were hugely helpful. Having her experienced eye over both sets of vows was a comfort, and she was always willing to give and take feedback on the vows and ceremony until everything was perfect. She was very flexible on the day as well, in the face of time changes and weather, which relaxed us a great deal. The reason I became Rainbow Pride Celebrant over 14 years and over 1200+ ceremonies ago was my strong belief in equal rights for same sex couples! I believed Same Sex Marriage should be available in Australia to all couples who love one another. When I started Rainbow Pride Celebrant no one in Queensland or to my knowledge elsewhere in Australia had created a dedicated celebrant website for LGBTQIA+ couples. Some have now followed in my footsteps which is a giant leap forward. We have had same-sex marriage for quite a while now and the next generation will be shocked that their ever was a time when LGBTQIA+ couples could not be married.

Firstly, Marilyn is a superstar, from the first call, to our first meeting and rehearsal in her welcoming home, to the actual ceremony. There are no words that can describe how overjoyed we are that we choose our first choice (we just knew she was the one after speaking to her on the phone) of celebrant. After reading some of the reviews that others had posted you could only hope you day could be a half as good, but believe me when I say it was much better than any review posted. “this is one of the best ceremonies I have attended”, one guest offered up, and another saying “you took us on an emotional rollercoaster. One minute we were laughing and the next crying”. Not only did this give us comfort it was our wedding they were talking about but the tone was set by Marilyn’s amazingly written words throughout, interjecting such fabulous humour and sensitivity. She, also kept control throughout the ceremony and even when things didn’t go to plan, she professionally continued giving enough time for what we had planned ( our dog to howl and bark at a set point), and when it didn’t she continued on, with no-one even noticing (except those in the knowledge)! The vows booklets, ceremonial marriage certificate, the copy of the ceremony and the hand fasting ties were all handed over at the end of the ceremony at a respectable opportunity by Marilyn, and the genuine heartfelt excitement and enthusiasm about us officially married was overwhelming. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, as this magical moment Marilyn promised us it would be, was everything we expected it to be and more, for not only Zane and I, but for each and every person that attended the wedding at Tamborine Gardens Wedding Resort. So we hit the internet looking for the perfect celebrant and found you Marilyn. You were delightfully refreshing, informative and available to travel and free on the date so we booked you there and then.  Your website had plenty of information to pre-guide us, and you filled in the gaps and offered further suggestions. The quality of the ceremony was extraordinary - we could not have planned it without your expert assistance and guidance. The Celtic Handfasting with ribbons as binding ties were an awesome experience for our family, friends and all our guests. The Handfasting included our daughter, grandchildren and friends in presenting these special words and ribbons was an incredibly effective way of including them in the momentous occasion. As our son guided the bride into the gathering where the better half was waiting, all your ceremonial planning with the wedding planner fell into place exactly, and from that moment on, despite one small tear-up for which the maid of honour was ready, all was smooth sailing right down to the almost smallest participant!  A prompt fixed that, and no stumbles, not even with large words to say for the ten year old.  Bubbles filled the air-triumphantly after the happy couple emerged from signing the Certificate of Commitment - after 33 years together! As anyone planning a wedding will know, it can be very stressful and trying to book everything and everyone can make you nervous and apprehensive, my partner, Kate and I found some really amazing people, especially one lady, the one and only Marilyn Verschuure. We knew she was the right celebrant for us after the very first phone call which took place, not even 24hours after we had inquired in her Marry Me Marilyn Website. On our very first initial meeting, Kate and I didn't feel like clients, we felt more like friends, everything we could possibly want to know and things we had no idea we could do was covered in our very first meeting. Kate and I had the most wonderful ceremony; you can't begin to imagine all the tiny little detail until the day of your rehearsal, but we didn't need to worry as Marilyn was a wonderful support to us, our bridal party and both of our parents the whole time. She is full of love and patience and we found her to be so encouraging. Marilyn knew and understood just how important our parents and best friends were and she helped us to shape our ceremony so perfectly so we could have these special people involved! There was no request too big or too small and nothing was ever too much trouble. Marilyn made us feel so comfortable and relaxed. Your ceremony was elegant, funny, lovely, joyous, hilarious, surprising, you and Kate looked so connected, I loved how close you stayed to each other, Your celebrant created a wonderful atmosphere right from word go'. These were elements that were so important to us, and it was these things and the small things that set our ceremony apart from many others that we have witnessed. Hi Marilyn, All the guests were very impressed with the sensitivity of the ceremony. They loved the 'Love Story' which shared Kate and Allyce's experience of getting to know each other and ultimately forming a relationship. The blessing of the rings was very touching and the general intimacy you created with your beautiful words.  It moved not only females but males to tears. At least 4 men came up to me after the ceremony and said they had shed tears during the ceremony as it was just so lovely. Quite a feat, I must say, as these were men I have never seen so moved. It was a formal, well prepared ceremony but had a very happy and relaxed atmosphere throughout. It was full of love and joyfulness. Your ceremony set the mood for the reception to follow. If there were any reservations among the guests attending a 'gay' union, you certainly won their hearts over - there was not one negative comment. Everyone sung your praises and just how beautiful the ceremony was. You are a true professional who takes great pride in their work and provides a very personal and intimate ceremony - one that my daughter and her partner will never forget. Dear Marilyn, Today we received our Certificate of Marriage. Thank you so much for helping to make our day so special.  It was a wonderful day and all had a great time.  We loved the actual ceremony and thank you for the effort and energy you put into it. All of the guests here for our wedding ceremony really enjoyed it and there were just a few tears shed.  Dinner that evening at Little Truffle in Mermaid was great and again everyone, including us, had a great time. Our Wedding was Very Special and Marilyn made it so easy because she possesses a calming nature and we felt comfortable in her hands. WE WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER TO CONDUCT ANY WEDDING CEREMONY ESPECIALLY SAME SEX MARRIAGES. She also gave great advice and suggestions for our special day as we combined traditional wedding vows as well as our Scottish Family Tartan Handfasting Ceremony. After an evening discussing their same sex marriage with our neighbours and how highly they spoke of how wonderful Marilyn was as their celebrant we knew straight away Marilyn was for us. We immediately arranged for a phone link chat with her. After the initial discussion we felt like old friends and how amazing she is as a person and as a celebrant. So, after 33 years together we finally settled on a date and Marilyn did the rest. Marilyn made the whole process so easy and we felt very comfortable with her as she possesses a lovely demeanour, a very sweet personality and is extremely passionate, just what we needed to help us through the wedding preparations. From the moment we researched and then met Marilyn in person we knew we had made the right choice for our special day. The CEREMONY WAS PERFECT on the day and she also took time to dress to blend in with our colour scheme. She looked gorgeous! Marilyn’s words and our handfasting ceremony that incorporated our wedding party and family members will always be a cherished moment. Nothing was left up in the air, and we experienced the best day of our partnership. We couldn’t be happier to recommend her for any ceremony you may want to choose as Marilyn will believe in you! We were initially concerned that as we were a same sex couple that our decision to hold a Big Gay Wedding Day wouldn’t be met with as much enthusiasm as we felt towards it. We were wrong! Marilyn was amazing beyond words. She quickly explained that Queensland had recently passed a legal Civil Partnership option for couples like us that either couldn't legally marry, or for those that chose this option instead of marriage. We were so happy to find out that we would have some form of legal document to sign on the day that legitimised our union. Hi Marilyn, Thank you so much for our special day it really was awesome. We enjoyed your thoughts and service so much! We went online and found Marilyn on her Rainbow Pride Celebrant Website by Google searching. She made such a good first impression at our initial meeting. Donna and I wanted someone who had experience with Commitment Ceremonies, someone who was as just as passionate about love and family for all, as we are. We found Marilyn just this. Marilyn is thoughtful, extremely helpful, warm, supportive and above all passionate. Marilyn offered us oodles of resources to help plan our Commitment Ceremony. There was more than enough just in her Commitment Resource Pack and then there were all the online resources. We have three very small children, and over our busy year Marilyn has been so understanding about the minimal contact and at times the running, jumping and screaming of three small boys that often took place during our meetings, phone calls and rehearsal. Marilyn puts such effort and thought into every little detail. She also gave great advice and suggestions for our special day. We loved our ceremony that included our 3 boys, not a thing went wrong and it was the most perfect day for us! We have also recommended a number of people to use Marilyn as their celebrant for their Commitment or Wedding Ceremony plans over the next couple of years. When I first met Marilyn, I knew she would be perfect for our ceremony. We only had a short space of time to prepare the wedding (6 weeks!!) and Marilyn was so professional and organised without being stressful - just what we needed!! People did not stop talking about how beautiful the sand ceremony was!
